About Chuck a Luck

Chuck-a-luck is a dice game in which three pairs of dice are used. The game is based on chance, and the player has little control over decision-making. The birdcage game, or big hazard, is another name for this game. The three dice are placed in an hourglass-shaped cage, which is shuffled before the dice are rolled. The bets are put based on a prediction of the dice's outcome. If the player correctly predicted the outcome, the payments are calculated using predetermined ratios for the wagers placed.

Special Features

At the Chuck-a-Luck table, there are essentially five different types of bets. Chips are placed inside the boxed numbers on the layout to make wagers. Of course, the player's belief in what number will appear as the total once the cage has been spun is crucial. The single numbers that can be made correspond to the larger numbers on the table layout.

You simply gamble on the likely outcome of a single number (1–6), and for each dice that shows the number you pick, you'll be paid out even money. If you bet on the number "3" and one of the dice displays a "3," you will receive a 1 to 1 payout. When two dice produce the same chosen number (in this case, a "3"), the payment is 2 to 1. If you're lucky enough to get all three dice to land on the same number, you'll get a 3 to 1 payment. It should be noted that in Chuck-a-Luck, the house edge on a number bet is 7.87 percent.

Special Features

A wager on the total score of all three dice being between 3 and 7, or 13 and 18. Even money or 1 to 1 bets are paid out. You've lost the bet if the sum of the three dice is between 8 and 12. The field bet has a house edge of 15.74 percent. A bet that all three dice will land on the same number. Any Triple pays 30 to 1 on all bets. This bet has a 13.9 percent house edge. With such a high house edge, it's no surprise that Chuck-a-Luck isn't seen at very many casinos. There are lots of other games with a lower house edge and more favorable odds.
