There are 53 cards in the deck for a game of Deuces Joker Video Poker, not 52. The extra card is a joker, but that's not the only wild card in the deck. All the deuces in the deck are also wild, which means that 5 of the 53 cards are wild. That makes it's much easier to get a good hand.

Unfortunately, the pay table is changed dramatically from that of a Jacks or Better game. You're no longer looking to get a high pair, since that doesn't even pay off. You need at least three of a kind to get back anything and all that gets you is your money back. You're looking for much bigger hands than that and, with five wild cards, you can get them. Just don't expect to get the same payoffs for a Straight, a Flush or a Full House that you get when there are no jokers in the deck.

A Straight only returns two coins for each one bet and a Flush or a Full House only return 3 coins. That's also all you get for four-of-a-kind. All those wild cards in the deck make Deuces Joker a much different game than you might be used to.

Features

The best payoff in this game comes for having all five wilds on one line. The four deuces and the one joker will pay off 2,000-1, which is likely the largest return you'll find in any video poker game.

There are two Royal Flush payoffs in Deuces Joker. A natural Royal Flush with no deuces or jokers can pay as much as 800-1. There is quite a drop-off if you get a Royal Flush that is aided by any Wild cards. That only returns 12 coins.

Strategy

You'll always want to keep a pair, if that's the best you have, but not two pair. There is no return in Deuces Joker for two pair and even a Full House does not offer a great payoff, so you're better off holding just one of the pairs and hoping to get at least one wild card in the draw.
